Portland is famous for its live music scene and many bands call it their home. Here are a few of our favorite nightlife and live music venues and movie theaters.

Small bar with cheap drinks, lots of candles, and a TV to show old movies only. You can order food from the bar next door.

Nice seating area. Provides all the warmth, intimacy, and social elements of a great neighborhood pub. Good beer menu, a wall of liquor, and good happy hour food. 517 NW 21st Ave.
One of the best artsy theaters in Portland. Cinema 21 hosts independent movies before they hit other theaters. 616 NW 21st Ave.
On weekends expect a crowded bar and dance floor. During the week, live band karaoke. 625 NW 21st Ave.
Get a private party room and sing with new friends from the hostel. They have English and international songbooks - know any good songs in Mandarin? They have $10 Tuesdays! Sing non-stop from 7-11pm.

A small space to watch DJs spin or small music acts perform in an intimate setting. You may or may not encounter chic Portland hipsters. 232 SW Ankeny St.
The bar doesn’t look big at all from outside. But if you walk all the way back and go down the stairs you’ll find yourself in the old Shanghai Tunnels of Portland. 211 SW Ankeny St.
