Hello! I’m Catherine and I’m from the wine region of Temecula in Southern California. I just left the wonderful California sun for Portland in October of 2010, and other than the unpredictable weather, I’ve fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest! I recently finished my Masters degree in Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland and returned to the States after digging up most of the Irish and Scottish West Coasts. I love hiking, discovering new coffee bars, and eating my way through all of the food carts Portland has to offer. Come say hello to me.
What countries have you traveled to? Where do you want to travel next?
I’ve traveled to Ireland, Scotland, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, and New Zealand. Next, I want to travel to Budapest, Hungary.
Do you have any stories to share about food which you tried on your travels?
While I was in London I eat pigeon for dinner at a swanky restaurant overlooking Tower Bridge.
If there is one thing you recommend to see and do in Portland, what would that be?
The Japanese Gardens in Washington Park.
Where can you get the best beer in Portland?
At the Tugboat Bar on 711 SW Ankeny Street. Try the Oatmeal Stout!
What is your favorite food cart?
My favorite food cart is called “Pastrami on Rye” and it can be found at SW 5th and Hall.
What’s your favorite thing to say in another language?
I like the Greek word for hotel – “Ξενοδοχείo” – because it’s a fun word to say and it literally means “house of foreigners.”
