The hostelling movement has greatly evolved and grown since Jim Kennett, owner of HI-Northwest Portland International Hostel, opened his first hostel over twenty years ago. Here is a brochure from the first hostel he opened in 1980 in Bandon, Oregon: the Sea Star Hostel.
Even though the prices have changed a bit, the mission is still the same, to bring together communities of travelers to gain a greater understanding of the world and its people.
